Corrupt Adobe Digital Editions Information

Symptoms: 
I am unable to authorize my eBook, and I’m receiving one of the following error messages in Adobe Digital Editions (ADE):

E_AUTH_NOT_READY
E_AUTH_BAD_DEVICE_KEY_OR_PKCS12

Cause: 
The eBook authorization information from Adobe’s DRM servers became corrupted or damaged during the download process.

Resolution:
ADE will not properly authorize your access to eBooks if it cannot read the corrupt authorization files. You will need to de-authorize and reauthorize the ADE client before downloading any eBooks.

Follow these steps to reauthorize ADE:
  1. Open ADE
  2. De-authorize ADE
    1. Windows: CTRL + SHIFT + D
    2. Mac: COMMAND + SHIFT + D
  3. Select ‘Erase Authorization’
  4. Click OK and close ADE
    1. Mac Users Only: Open Finder and navigate to /Users/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions. Delete the file ‘activation.dat’
  5.  Open ADE
  6. Re-authorize ADE
    1. Windows: CTRL + SHIFT + U
    2. Mac: COMMAND + SHIFT + U
  7.  Download your eBooks again.
